Common Misconceptions
Misconception: A vulnerability scan constitutes an audit.
A vulnerability scan is an automated technical tool output — it identifies known vulnerability signatures in software versions and configurations. It does not test policy adherence, user behavior controls, incident response procedures, or governance structures. An audit that incorporates vulnerability scanning uses it as one evidence source among many, not as a substitute for control testing.
Misconception: Passing an audit means an organization is secure.
